Linkshänder oder Rechtshänder: Ist die Händigkeit relevant bei der Wahl der richtigen Geldbörse?

Does it matter whether I am right-handed or left-handed when choosing my wallet? The answer is, as is often the case, it depends. The type of wallet in particular plays a decisive role. In classic landscape wallets, the coin compartment is on the right-hand side of the wallet. This makes it easier for right-handed people to sort the coins. But there are also wallets that are equally suitable for right-handed and left-handed people.

Smarter, more creative, wrongly wired, impure - there have always been many myths and prejudices surrounding the phenomenon of left-handed people. Around 10 percent of the world's population is left-handed. That doesn't sound like a lot at first. But with 7.8 billion people, we are talking about 780 billion people worldwide whose left hand dominates over their right. In Germany, there are around twelve million.

In the past, attempts were often made to re-educate left-handed people. Today we know that this can lead to learning difficulties and - in the worst case - depression. Nevertheless, left-handed people often face greater challenges in everyday life: not only are wallets for left-handed people rarer, almost all electronic devices and tools such as scissors, can openers and corkscrews are designed for right-handed people. It is assumed that left-handed people are better able to connect their brain halves because they are forced to "think differently" more often.

Especially with landscape wallets, left-handed models differ from those for right-handed people. Wallets for left-handed people are made in mirror image. Left-handed people usually hold the wallet with their right hand so that they can sort bills, coins and cards with their dominant left hand. This is why a special left-handed wallet has the ID and card compartments on the right side of the wallet and the coin compartment on the left. With zippered wallets, the opening direction of the zipper also differs.
