Zwei Frauen die helles Leder in der Hand haben und begutachten

Wie reinigt man weiße oder helle Leder?

Fantastically elegant, but unfortunately sensitive: light leather is more susceptible to dirt than dark leather and therefore needs to be cared for and cleaned regularly. Good waterproofing is also essential to prevent discoloration of textiles. Dark-colored jeans in particular, but also jackets and belts, can transfer dyes to the leather that are difficult to remove.

If light leather gets dirty despite all precautions, every minute counts: stains and discolorations on light leather must be removed as quickly as possible, otherwise the dyes will be absorbed and cannot be removed with standard cleaners! There are a few special features to consider when cleaning light and white leather.

CLEANING STEPS FOR LIGHT LEATHER AT A GLANCE

  1. Before cleaning the leather with a damp cloth, you should dust the surface with a dust cloth to remove loose dirt and dust.
  2. Carefully treat the dirty area on the light leather with a light, damp terry cloth or a soft cloth to avoid damaging the paint layer. Important: the cloth should be clean and damp, but not dripping wet.
  3. After cleaning, a leather care cream can be applied to the light-colored leather to prevent it from drying out and cracking. When choosing a care product, make sure to pay attention to the type and color of leather and, if in doubt, use colorless cleaning and care products for light-colored leather products.

Impregnating light or white leather

As already mentioned, waterproofing light or white leather is particularly important because it is exceptionally sensitive to discoloration and dirt. Find a clean, dry place in the fresh air. Spray the waterproofing spray onto the light leather from a distance of about 30 centimeters. Pay attention to the description of the respective product and try not to inhale the gases emitted by the waterproofing spray.

Repeat the process two to three times after 20 minutes each and then allow the product to work for 24 hours before using the bag or wallet again.

The impregnation should be refreshed every few months.

Cleaning light suede

Light suede is particularly sensitive to stains and should definitely be impregnated immediately after purchase! But don't panic! Dirt and discoloration on light or white suede can still be treated. A special dirt eraser is particularly suitable for cleaning, as it removes dirt particles from the surface of the leather. If this is not enough, use a particularly sensitive cleaning foam specifically for suede. Use as little moisture as possible to clean the light leather, as open-pored leather types are particularly sensitive to moisture. After drying, carefully roughen the leather a little with a soft brush if necessary.

Removing grease stains from light or white leather

Grease stains on light-colored leather are extremely annoying. If your light-colored leather becomes discolored due to grease - for example due to grease splashes, sauces or hand cream - you need to act quickly. Fresh grease stains can usually be removed from smooth leather using enzyme-free wool detergent and lukewarm, distilled water. Dab the solution carefully onto the stain with a clean cotton cloth, allow it to take effect for a short time and then carefully vacuum it off as much as possible with a dry cloth.

The best way to remove fresh grease stains from suede is with tried and tested household remedies such as dry shampoo or baby powder. For old, soaked and dried grease stains, it is worth carefully treating them with blotting paper and an iron.

Cleaning light smooth leather

Smooth leather is leather that has been processed with the grain side facing outwards. Smooth leather is particularly robust and durable. However, light-coloured leather in particular can become dirty or discoloured more quickly. First try to remove the dirt with a clean, dry cloth. If this is not possible, you can use neutral soap or a gentle cleaning foam to clean the light-coloured leather.

Drying light leather

You must also be careful when drying products made of light or white leather, as wet leather is extremely sensitive. Dry the leather on a dry, non-staining surface. Be careful not to expose the leather to direct sunlight and never dry it on a heater, as heat and UV rays can dry out the leather and affect the color of the leather.
